Wild Guitar

Published 1962

Except for the fact that it stars Arch Hall, Jr., who's as cute as a warthog and as convincing an actor as Tor Johnson, this is a fairly entertaining little jukebox musical. Bud Eagle comes to Hollywood from Spearfish, South Dakota, signs with a sleazy agent, and becomes a big star. There's also a cute girl who can't act a lick, and a heavy in the form of Steak, played by Cash Flagg (really Ray Dennis Steckler, who directed).

There's also some interesting camera work now and then (Vilmos Zsigmond did 2nd Unit photography here), and a truly surreal closing number that has to be seen to be believed.

The file uploaded is a reasonably clear XviD AVI.

Seeing the bad reviews this film got made me want to watch it all the more. This movie is great. It's 1962 and a pretty darned accurate representation of the record business, especially in that era.

Now...this is a cheesy movie, don't get me wrong. Just as cheesy as the record industry. Justin Beiber is a hit right now...ok? It's almost like Frank Zappa made this movie. It's a perfect early 1960's drive-in flick...NOT STAR WARS!

The music is actually really good and the cheesy fake band was a blast. The fake fan club kids were just as real as real fake fan club kids. The manager is a perfect phony and his hunchman (and hunchwoman ;-)were spot on. I can't imagine why they had the comic relief idiot bad guys in the story, but they only made the cheese better in the long run.

Don't believe the poor reviews. If you like good, honest American cheese, you'll get this film. I especially dug the first song he did. I only gave it 4 stars because I'd have liked to have seen more songs in it.

Arch Hall, Jr., Actor(seven movies that I know of, not a great actor), musician(saw him the same night I saw Johnny Rivers at Whisky-a-Go-Go in Calif), aviator(believe it or not, up to a Boeing 747), author(haven't read it or them). The movie, pretty good tunes, rest sucks. If you have some time to waste, I really mean waste!, then watch it, otherwise, check out the other movies here.

This movie was really great - except not.

I would actually debit this movie 3 stars to make up for the time I have lost forever from my life, but it is not allowed.

The vintage Fender Jaguar deserves one star.

Arch Hall is one of our fine actors. And the girl! Wow!
A really enjoyable hour and 27 minutes. Can't wait for this guy's next picture.

this movie had to be written on someone's toenails for all the adversity one has watching it with any intent to be entertained, and if anyone made any money off it it should be returned, but what the heck? its free now!
